KENT & EAST SUSSEX RAILWAY 02.MAY 2009 65 South East & Chatham Railway O1 Class A regular on the line in the early 1950's visiting from the Bluebell Railway and back to K&ESR for the first time in 54 years! 32678 BR A1X Class 'Terrier' Like 65 above, 32678 hauled the last passenger train in 1954. When 32678 left BR it spent some time at Butlins Holiday Park in Minehead as a 'novelty climbing frame' and had a series of owners before returning to K&ESR in the late 1980's. 3 'Terrier' named 'Bodiam' Purchased from LB&SCR in 1900 for £600, it was the K&ESR's original 'Terrier'. 662 'Martello' Visiting from Bressingham Steam Museum but failed and did not appear in steam on Saturday. It's place was taken by 23 'Holman F Stephens' 753 P Class Worked on branchline duties for SE&CR and Southern Railway before being hired by K&ESR in 1936. A major restoration was completed in the mid 1980's. 65 'Maunsell' USA Class Built in America in 1943 came over as part of the war effort, then used as a shunter at Southampton Docks and on to Ashford working in sidings at the wagon works. 1638 16XX Class A pannier tank built in 1951 for BR to a Great Western design in the famous GWR works at Swindon. Worked in South Wales on sharp curves and steep gradients similar to K&ESR. D6570 Class 33 Built for BR in 1961 and named 'Ashford' in 1980.
